Leaving the campground just above Niagara Falls this morning, the river was just beautiful.  This was my 10th border crossing of the trip. On the Canadian side of the bridge, this golf cart was pulled across the lanes to hold us there. About 10 minutes later, it moved on, & so did we - no idea what that was about.  This McDonalds on the south side of Buffalo looks to me like a slightly updated version of something out of the 1960s or early 70's. Somehow, a McDonalds seems like the perfect symbol of re-entry into everyday life after a trip to Alaska.    After 13,519 miles & 124 days on the road, it was good to arrive home about 5:00 this evening.  My next post will be next week when I hit the road again.  *   *   *   *   * Wildlife sightings  - final count for the trip      black bears - 27         deer - 17 (12 Sitka)                  grizzl...

Niagara Falls, Post-rally

Image
All but 2 of us left today. All the folks I talked to have booked for next year, which speaks to the success of this year's rally.  These folks weren't with our group, but this truck-top tent was interesting.  And our neighbors here are always quite popular.

Niagara Falls Rally, Day 3

A number of us had brunch at a local restaurant, as has been the tradition since the first rally. Then folks started to leave. It was a fun group this year. The pictures from yesterday will have to represent today as well.

Niagara Falls Rally, Day 2

Here are some pics from around the rally. In the morning, folks toured each other's trailers. Also, there was a blue tarp event; a blue tarp is spread out, folks put camping-related items they no longer want on the tarp, & anyone who sees something they can use takes it. In the evening, everyone gathered for a lovely pot luck dinner, & then folks scatters to several bon fires.

Niagara Falls Rally, Day 1

I was too busy catching up with folks here to take any photos, so it was a great day at the rally. Sunny weather with a high of 75* made the day even better. Will be a better documentarian tomorrow.

southeast Ontario

Manitoulin Island is a lovely vacation area between Lake Huron & Georgian Bay. I took the ferry from Manitoulin Island to "mainland" Ontario north of Toronto.    I arrived late at a campground near Niagara Falls, ON, where there's a rally of Escape & other fiberglass trailers.

Lakes Superior & Huron

Image
The morning drive was along the east coast of Lake Superior, where the evergreens continued to dominate the forest. In western Ontario, there's a moose crossing sign at least every 5 miles, sometimes every mile or two.  I only drove part way around Lake Huron, & didn't catch any pics of it, but did see more signs of fall, as well as politics. The landscape changed noticeably, & there are many fewer evergreens, many more & more varied deciduous trees, & more farms.  Last winter in Tucson, I briefly met a couple of ladies full-timing in an Escape trailer. We've been in touch a few times & discovered that we would on Manitoulin Island, at the same time, so I booked a site for the night at this lovely little campground where they're staying this week.  *   *   *   *   * Wildlife sightings  (not counting those in the conservation preserve or the aquarium) --> -->  today: 1 deer           ...
