Had an uneventful drive home through some lovely fall color. Will blog again beginning Dec 20th when I begin my trip through the south for the winter.

post rally day

Image
Last evening, we had a big pot luck dinner with 84 folks attending. It was quite the spread. Everyone had plenty to eat, & some alcohol may have been consumed. 😊 This morning, about 2/3 of the 41 trailers here with our rally left. Many of us particularly enjoy the day before the rally & the day after, as the pace is more laid back, & it's easier to really get to visit with some folks. The last few days, the sky has been constantly changing. These 2 pics were taken within a few minutes of each other & both facing the same general direction.  Home tomorrow!

last full day of rally

Image
My rig is in the foreground in the first pic.  The weather was beautiful this afternoon, so many folks were out visiting around & checking out each other's trailers. The only organized event of this rally is the pot luck dinner this evening.  These folks aren't with our group, but had to include a pic of this guy.

second day of the rally

Image
No rally pics today, & these pics of trees in the campground were all shot yesterday when the sun was shinning. Also, a little friend stopped by to hang out on the trailer tire. It rained off & on all day today, but folks got out between showers, walked, & visited around.

first day of rally

Image
A number of new fiberglass trailers arrived today, & a few more will arrive tomorrow. Was fun catching up with folks I met at other rallies & meeting some new folks as well. This evening, one couple from our group hosted a cocktail hour featuring mulled wine along with some other drinks & snacks.  These pics are to share a bit of what the campground is like. The first pic is taken from my trailer doorway; there's lovely creek beyond the neighbor's trailer. The night-time pic is the trailer on the other side of me, & not from our group - there are 20-25 folks in that trailer & a couple of yurts. My idea of camping involves quietly looking at the night sky, so I won't be sorry to move across the campground tomorrow.  The first shot is across the campground yesterday & includes a couple of fiberglass trailers. Some folks even decorate for the season.

another pre-rally day

Image
I arrived here on Mon, by yesterday/Tues eve there were 7 fiberglass trailers here, & by this evening there were 19. With many arriving tomorrow & a few more on Fri, should be a good-sized group. There are 2 other Escape 5.0s - they're getting to be popular. My truck & tailer are in the background of the second pic.

a pre-rally day

Didn't do too much today. Walked around the campground a few times, scored a better site for the latter part of the rally, & met some others who arrived early. Also went to the PO & Walmart. A pretty exciting day. Did have a cute little visitor at the campsite & took a pic of the countryside on the way back from town.

On the road again

Drove to the southwest corner of Virginia. Will spend 7 nights in Hungry Mother State Park, a lovely spot on the edge of the mountains. My excuse for coming is to attend a fiberglass trailer rally, but it's also a beautiful spot to take in some fall color.

home

Had planned to take 2 days to drive home from Nashville, but felt good today, & drove all the way. It took about 13 1/2 hours to drive about 600 miles, put the trailer to bed in the storage yard, & off-load the truck at home - a long day, but a good one. Will be home now until Oct 16, so no more posts until then.

a visit

Spent today visiting my Aunt Mary Louise & Cousin Beth in Nashville, & am happy to have found them both well.

to Nashville

Image
Forgot to post this pic of the Flint Hills in KS yesterday. Drove to Montgomery Bell State Park outside of Nashville today. Near the visitor center is a statue representing the CCC men who developed the park in the 1930s.  My campsite is lovely & backs to a pretty creek. The local students are on fall break, so the campground is full & hopping.

drive day

Image
Drove from McPherson, KS, to just past East St Louis today. Spending the night in a Cracker Barrel parking lot for the first time; there's another trailer & a Sprinter van here as well.

Main Street, Salina

Image
As promised yesterday, here are some pics of downtown Salina. In spite of a few empty storefronts, the street was a lovely place to wander with some interesting shops.  There was a variety of public art installations including sculptures & murals.                                    And the best find there was these two, along with a couple of friends.
