The connection to the Top-of-the-World Highway is this little ferry across the Yukon River, which I took this afternoon. A full load for it was 5 vehicles: a dump truck, a truck camper, 2 vans, & 1 pickup truck, along with a few pedestrians & cyclists. Dredge No 4 NHS After the initial Klondike Gold Rush in 1898, few individual miners were finding very much panning in the creeks. At that point, big commercial operations moved in with huge dredges to dig up & sort the rock.                                   These pictures show the unspoiled local landscape, some of the rock piles left from the dredges (there are miles of these), & modern mining in the area.  This is the whole dredge & a pic of just the back end.    This is the machine shop that was needed to support the dredge.    This big tube is just 1 piece of the dredge; note the man standing inside the tube.  Tombstone Territorial Park & Dempster Highway The Dempster Highway is a famous route north to the Arctic Ocean.
