Whitewater Draw Wildlife Area

Image
At home, one sees cell towers disguised as VERY tall spruces; out here, they are disguised as palm trees - not very effective in either place.   The other areas of Arizona I've been in the last few weeks have been unusually green due to more rain than usual. The drive today was only 2:15 south, but it seems very dry. There should be 20,000 sandhill cranes overwintering here, flying out in the morning & returning in the evening. However, I'm not expecting to see any/many.  It's also quite windy, so I'll move on tomorrow, 2 days early.

This is my last of 3 nights staying here. It's very convenient to Tucson. Came down with a cold last night, so just did laundry, grocery shopping, & cooking today. These mountain views are all from the campground - a pretty nice temporary home..

My step sister & her husband treated me to a lovely lunch & a tour of a local garden here - a perfect day!

Phoenix Art Museum

After reading about it several months ago, I had to go to the Phoenix Art Museum to see the special exhibit of work by Amalia Mesa-Bains. For the first time ever at a special exhibit, it was so enjoyable that the catalogue followed me home.                                                                            *   *   *   *   *                                 *   *   *   *   *                                 *   *   *   *   *                       *   *   *   *   *

Spent today with my nephew & his family in Phoenix; went to a soccer game, had a lovely lunch out, walked around a beautiful local park, & had time for a good catch up. My two great nieces, aged 7 & 10 are growing into delightful young ladies. Had a spiffy ride to the game, & the day ended with another lovely sunset over Phoenix viewed from my campsite at Lost Dutchman Sate Park.

Took a long mosey around the park today, & met some other Escape owners. Found this huge Saguaro cactus; since they don't begin to branch until they are 70 years old, this guy must be very old. Late in the afternoon, just enough clouds rolled in to yield a fabulous sunset.
