Another day spent figuring out all of the workings of this trailer. I've pretty much run every system & sorted out the various ways of doing everything except for unplugging & just using battery power. However, the monitor says that batteries are fully charged, so that shouldn't be a big deal. Biggest accomplishment today was unhitching, driving away from the trailer, then returning & hitching all by myself; lined it up perfectly on the first try! Thank you God & generous souls for YouTube videos .

Rain moved in this afternoon, & will still be wet in the am for breaking camp. But, I got as organized as possible before the rain & planned out a short drive for tomorrow.

Gros Morne: Trout River area

Exploring this little town, I first walked up a headland to the lighthouse; the old lighthouse was charming, but, like many, it's been replaced by a functional red & white modern little tower.                                    Then, I walked up the headland on the other end of town. A late lunch of pickled herring with onions & sour cream along with a bowl of Newfoundland pea soup (split pea soup pureed with lots of carrots & potatoes) topped off my visit. Adirondack chairs are quite popular here, & many folks have their own version.                                  After returning from my hike yesterday, I was wiped out. The walk was only 4K & not too steep, so I couldn't figure it out. Then, in the evening, I developed a throat tickle that I just couldn't shake - kept me awake for hours. It hit me this morning that 4 hours in a pub on Wednesday evening probably gave me a cold or Covid - not too bad, just annoying.

family reunion

Had about 3 dozen folks from Manny's family together here today. We're a loud & crazy group. Most of us came from parts of the East Coast, but 3 of the Texans came, as well as one from Australia. We're so blessed to have each other.

Pinware & Point Amour

My first 5 nights in Labrador are at Pinware River Provincial Park. My campsite is just behind the tree line in the first pic, so the sound of the waves has been lulling me to sleep. This little guy has been a regular visitor to my campsite. The whalebone is on display at the entrance station.  Point Amour Lighthouse is more than 150 years old, is the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada, & has quite a lot of history associated with it. When the HMS Raleigh, a British warship, wrecked here in 1922, all the locals pitched in to help rescue the 700 crew & keep them until other ships could take back to England. When a local lady who'd been especially helpful was asked by the crown what they could do for her, she asked for, & was granted, ownership of the cove next to the lighthouse; the current population of 8 are her descendants.
