Driving with the trailer is much easier than I'd thought it would be, & it's easy to tow it on the interstate, as long as the traffic isn't real heavy. So, I've been driving further each day than planned, & made better time going on interstates as opposed to secondary highways, even while staying well under the speed limit. 

Drove 580 miles today through easter Nebraska, Iowa, & a bit of Illinois. A nice roadside nap perked me up late in the morning. The scenery was pretty ho-hum, & I was despairing of finding an interesting spot to photograph when a mid-afternoon rest stop brought me to this place.


It's a sprawling complex that even includes a trucking museum - saved that for next trip.

Snagged another riverfront "campsite" this evening facing the bridge going from East Peoria to Peoria. Facing the other way is a Bass Pro Shop, one of a number of places which let RVers stay a night in their parking lot.

Gros Morne: Trout River area

Exploring this little town, I first walked up a headland to the lighthouse; the old lighthouse was charming, but, like many, it's been replaced by a functional red & white modern little tower.                                    Then, I walked up the headland on the other end of town. A late lunch of pickled herring with onions & sour cream along with a bowl of Newfoundland pea soup (split pea soup pureed with lots of carrots & potatoes) topped off my visit. Adirondack chairs are quite popular here, & many folks have their own version.                                  After returning from my hike yesterday, I was wiped out. The walk was only 4K & not too steep, so I couldn't figure it out. Then, in the evening, I developed a throat tickle that I just couldn't shake - kept me awake for hours. It hit me this morning that 4 hours in a pub on Wednesday evening probably gave me a cold or Covid - not too bad, just annoying.

family reunion

Had about 3 dozen folks from Manny's family together here today. We're a loud & crazy group. Most of us came from parts of the East Coast, but 3 of the Texans came, as well as one from Australia. We're so blessed to have each other.

Pinware & Point Amour

My first 5 nights in Labrador are at Pinware River Provincial Park. My campsite is just behind the tree line in the first pic, so the sound of the waves has been lulling me to sleep. This little guy has been a regular visitor to my campsite. The whalebone is on display at the entrance station.  Point Amour Lighthouse is more than 150 years old, is the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada, & has quite a lot of history associated with it. When the HMS Raleigh, a British warship, wrecked here in 1922, all the locals pitched in to help rescue the 700 crew & keep them until other ships could take back to England. When a local lady who'd been especially helpful was asked by the crown what they could do for her, she asked for, & was granted, ownership of the cove next to the lighthouse; the current population of 8 are her descendants.
