alpine lakes
Took 2 short hikes to alpine lakes this morning. The first hike went to 3 small lakes above 7,000 feet, & I was the first one up the trail today. The still mountain air alternated with periodic huge wind gusts roaring through the trees.
This section of the trail was just plowed open on Friday. The drifts are still well over my head, & the melting snow made the trail muddy in spots.
The lakes were small but beautiful.
The snow melt created little waterfalls all across the rock faces above the lake. The plan was to kayak around the lake, but it was too windy.
Driving down from these lakes, I caught a view of the lower alpine lake I'd be hiking to next. Lake Tahoe is in the background.
The wind at the lower lake was so fierce that waves were crashing onto the shoreline.
