Spending today & tomorrow at Antelope Island State Park. It's just outside of Salt Lake City, is surrounded by the Great Salt Lake, & is quite interesting. I'll post the scenery pics tomorrow.

Started the morning with a short hike up to a view, & like yesterday, I had the place to myself. On the drive back down, this guy & a friend were hanging out close to the road. There are about 500 bison in the island, so one sees them on virtually every drive of any length. I spent an hour watching this pair & another one close by as they took turns eating, laying down, & rolling in the dust. It was very considerate of them to put on a show so close to the road so that I could watch from the truck. They aren't aggressive by nature, but will charge in an instant should someone annoy them; the warning signs say to slowly back away if one turns to look at you, as that's the first sign they are bothered, & especially move away if they raise their tail slightly.

At the visitor center, a group of barn swallows were nesting & providing entertainment.

This pair seems to be doing their own thing.

Spending some time this evening pottering around the trailer cleaning & such.

  1. How amazing it is to see buffaloes in their natural habitat. Are they as big as the pictures show? They look huge.
    Have a great day. Linda

  2. Just now found this comment. Yes, they're as big as they look, & ornery too.
