7/19/23 - 2 Wyoming towns

Today, I explored Sheridan & Buffalo.

Sheridan is a lovely town. Part of Main Street is being repaved, but it was still fun to walk the old downtown & see the variety of old west architecture. In the 2nd pic, you can see that statues on  pedestals done by local artists & baskets of pink petunias lined several blocks.

The local arts society also sponsored several larger statues, & there are scattered flower beds right downtown. And the signs for the local saloons are their own art form.

This planting in an alley off Main Street was interesting. I've seen hydroponics in greenhouses to grow food, but not as a street planting like this.

Then there was this guy...just a rhinoceros hanging out in Sheridan. Also, it seems that the town has big plans to expand the downtown attractions. I want to come back in 10 years to see how it's turned out!

An orphaned cowboy from Texas did so well in Wyoming  & Montana (6 huge ranches!) that he became governor & a senator. He named his main house "Trail End" because he built it as his retirement home. Even the stable is classy. (https://trailend.org/)

Buffalo is smaller with less obvious planning going on, but still a fun place for a couple of hours. These murals were great - I had a burger inside the 2nd building.

The Occidental Hotel & Saloon is the most famous building in town. The interior of the saloon really is fantastic.

I'm spending tonight on a ranch. Will make a 2nd post about that.
