the unexpected...

South of the I-80 corridor, there are 2 canyons that run east out of Salt Lake City up past ski resorts to the Park City area. I'm camping in one of those, Big Cottonwood Canyon. Today, I started down canyon about 7am.

My plan to arrive early for a hike was disrupted when I spotted this large male moose having his breakfast. I watched him for about 45 minutes until he wandered up into the trees.

So, later than planned, but in good time, I entered the bottom of Little Cottonwood Canyon.

When I got to the road near the top of the canyon where I'd planned to hike, I was greeted by this sign. It never occurred to me that the road would still be closed on July 4!

So, it was back to Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Found lots of different wildflowers walking around the campground.

I'm in site #60, & apparently, a moose gave birth to twins in site #68 some weeks ago, & they are still in the area. My eyes are peeled...
