MT: Bannack, Anaconda, Georgetown Lake
On the way out of Bannack State Park this morning, I stopped at the other, larger cemetery. Not sure why it was located so far (about a mile) from town. The second pic is typical of southwestern MT.
Anaconda is know for the huge smelter, which processed much of the copper from Butte. The 3 statues below represent the 3 types of workers needed: miners, smelters, & rail workers. The stack, which looks small in the background of the pic, is as tall as the Washington Monument, & 93' across at the base, & 60' across inside at the top. The courthouse is impressive, & a number of quite attractive churches dot the town.
I stopped to get gas, & another Escape trailer pulled up at the next gas pump - always fun to run into another Escape owner.
Saw 2 mule deer in Anaconda; one was on the edge of town, but the other one was ambling across the street 3 blocks in from the edge of town, right in the thick of things! This one was outside my campground, a much more appropriate place for such critters. Georgetown Lake is quite busy, but I'm camped on a quiet corner.
