west Texas

My drive today took me from south of Dallas-Fort Worth through Abilene & Midland to the Mohanas Sandhills State Park. This was my first time through west Texas, & it was what I'd expected: oil pumps & wind mills in a rolling scrubby landscape. Though sunny & warm, the winds steadily increased through the drive until they were around 25 mph here in the sand hills. Fortunately, my campsite is nestled in some hills, which offer a bit of protection from the worst of the wind. After 4 days with highs in the upper 50s, today reached 64*.

The owner of this 1960s Subaru admired my trailer, & I admired his new-to-him car.

This fun artwork was on the end of a convenience store/gift shop/motel/event center; other than the adjacent gas station, it's in the middle of nowhere, West Texas.

Spending the night here. The sand dunes remind me of the Outer Banks, but no ocean here.
