Baton Rouge to New Orleans

After leaving the Baton Rouge area, I toured Rosedown, a lovely old plantation. The farm parcels have been sold off, but 300 acres remain with the house, including many outbuildings & the fantastic gardens.

The live oak allee frames the view of the house & views looking from the house.

The azaleas are early this year & are in full bloom, & the camellias were starting.

This rose bush & live oak alone were worth the price of admission.

Two summerhouses add interest to the gardens & frame views.

Ninety percent of the original furnishings are still with the house, so it feels all of a piece.

The single most interesting piece is a tapestry done by Mary Washington, whose great-granddaughter inherited it & married into the family at Rosedown.
