Corner Brook

It's about a 45 minute drive from my campsite to the Corner Brook area, where I went to look around today. The road there runs along a fjord-like finger of water off of the Gulf of St Lawrence.

First up was a short hike to Steady Brook Falls. Somehow, that feels like a very Canadian name to me. There's a random totem pole near the trailhead.

On a hill overlooking the "city" is the Captain James Cook Historical Site. Among his many accomplishments, he spent 5 summers surveying Newfoundland, & created charts that were used for more than a hundred years. Along with the statue & some story boards giving his story, there is a great view over Corner Brook. Corner Brook is the second biggest city in NL with a population of around 20,000. In the foreground of the picture is a large timber processing plant.

After noodling around Corner Brook, I made a run to Walmart. After leaving this area on Wed, it will be 4 weeks until I'll be near another Walmart - a rather strange feeling. This is making me plan ahead more than is my want.
