last of Labrador

Labrador is notorious for the black flies in July & August. I went in June hoping to avoid them, & they weren't bad until night before last when they seemed to appear all at once. Mosquitoes have never bothered me all that much, but it seems that black flies LOVE me, & I am quite sensitive to their bites. I'd booked the boat over to Battle Harbour yesterday, so stayed to do that (too windy for flies out there). The few short hikes I'd planned for today & tomorrow looked WAY less appealing once the black flies started to swarm, so I hopped the ferry back to Newfoundland/The Rock/The Island today. These pics are from various locations along the southern coast of Labrador, which is called the Labrador Straits, as it runs along the Strait of Belle Isle. The sunrise was at 4:51 this morning.
