Vikings

Saw 2 icebergs off the coast today, one when driving out in the morning & another coming back this afternoon.

Vikings: I spent half of today at L'Anse aux Meadows National Historical Site. This is believed to be the place where Leif Erikson landed & established a short-lived settlement.

Vikings: The first pic overlooks the area where the settlement was; the sod mounds are the recreated dwellings seen closer up below. In the last pic of this series, the depression shows where a Viking building was.

A lovely trail runs a couple of kilometers from the historical area around a headland & across a bog. These red Adirondack chairs are placed in 400+ peaceful scenic locations across the country by Parks Canada. Someone built & installed this little rustic doll house along the trail.

A Newfie delicacy is cod tongues, which I had for dinner tonight. They are lightly battered & pan fried, & I cut one open to expose the meat in the second pic. They taste like cod, but are tougher & a bit stringy - not bad, but not my idea of a delicacy either.

The sunset from my campsite...
