Bonavista

Yesterday was such a full day that I broke it into 2 posts, so here's Part II.

Supposedly, John Cabot first landed here on Cape Bonavista. To celebrate the 500th anniversary of his landing, a replica of his boat was built here. It's housed inside a building with no space around it, so the model actually gives a better idea of the whole thing.

The Ryan Fishing Premises was a huge complex of buildings housing the various operations of a big cod fishing business, which included a fish processing building, a warehouse to store the fish, a lumber yard, a cooperage, a bunkhouse, etc. This model shows the whole thing, & the second pic is the house where the proprietor lived.

After discovering that moose were introduced here in 1904, now number over 100,000 animals, & are hunted to thin the herd, I decided to try a moose burger. It tasted a lot like beef, but not quite as good, IMO.

Since there was & is a bit more money in Bonavista than in some other parts of the province, the architecture is a bit more interesting.
