Terra Nova National Park

All of the park is within 5K of the coast, & is comprised mostly of Black Spruce forests, with some areas dominated by Balsam Fir, White Birch & Tamarack. The open patches interspersed with the forest are areas which have been burned as part of the forest management program.

Outside the park, there's a lovely local history museum in Glovertown; the photo from the museum display shows a house being floated across a bay, which happened often in the middle of the last century, as outport villages were relocated to larger towns. Every local history museum here seems to have a photo or two of floating a house across the bay or pulling one across the ice. The countryside around is scenic, & I found this funny sign on a restroom door.

I'd planned to visit a living history village about 1 1/2 hours from my campsite. About an hour up the road, an official was stopping & turning around all of the cars; the road was closed due to a horrible accident which had killed 2 people. Going around the other way would have taken about 3 hours each way. It was a reminder to keep minor inconveniences in perspective & to be thankful for each day.
