a bit of Ferryland
I went to the town of Ferryland to explore the lighthouse & the Colony of Avalon, which consists of a large museum & an extensive archeological area; unfortunately, with the remnants of a hurricane moving in, places were closed. This one way road with a pullout for passing reminded me of northern Scotland.
A couple of info boards were out where I could get to them, even with the site closed. On the second panel, the "stage" refers to the shed on the shore where the cod was processed; loved the bit about them standing in barrels.
The area was beautiful, even with the storm moving in.
I never get tired of these little harbours full of boats. This one even had a refurbished flake (the wooden platform where the salted fish are spread out to dry), indicating that some personal fishing is still going on.
I liked this rustic fence made from tree branches or saplings. The gulls, who would normally be out on the water, had gathered on this roof to ride out the storm.
In spite of places closing up, the storm ended up being mostly a rain event, & not enough in this area to get too excited about, though more is expected overnight.
