across the southern Avalon

At my campsite this morning, a little otter was rollicking at the edge of the pond. He was too small & moving too quickly for a good pic, but here he is diving off a rock into the pond.

Today, I drove across the southern Avalon Peninsula & encountered some of the fog that the Irish Loop is known for, but also some more lovely scenery. Some of that scenery was enjoyed at a very slow pace on 20+ miles of highway that was gravel & dirt.

Almost every small town in NL has a storyboard telling some local history. The town of Riverhead has 2 storyboards of local history & a dozen honoring those lost in the two world wars. This pride & attachment to history is so typical here.

These "sunflowers" are common here on the sides of homes, on fenceposts, & even this travel trailer; I'm assuming that they are in support of Ukraine.
