Bay de Verde
Newfoundland's Avalon Peninsula is the eastern part of the province, which includes St. John's; it's composed of 4 smaller peninsulas, 2 pointing north north east & 2 pointing south south west. Bay de Verde is the small peninsula pointing north north east beside the peninsula which includes St. John's. Its towns come with fun names like Heart's Desire, Heart's Content, & Heart's Delight. Today, I explored the northern half of this peninsula.
Besides scenic viewpoints, my first stop was the fabulous Wooden Boat Museum in Winterton.
In the boat shed behind the museum, a master boat builder actually builds boats. One can take a class from him Jan-March, 2 nights a week for 4 hours.
The drive along the coast around the cape was just great.
There were a number of these little ponds with yellow waterlilies that looked like they could have been plucked out of a Japanese garden. Many of the churches have been turned into community centres or arts centres.
