Cape Francis

The cape north of St. John's at the northern tip of the Avalon Peninsula, where I took a stroll today, is Cape Francis. These 3 pics are the coast just below the cape.

As the pics show, this is likely the ugliest lighthouse in all of NL. The big concrete pad beside it is a landing spot for a helicopter - not sure why it's way out here. The only info a quick Google search turned up is that the light keeper's house was demolished in 1993 & the helicopter pad was installed that year. Hmmm.

The ruggedly beautiful coast here is a stark contrast to the ugly lighthouse.

Pouch Cove is a lovely little town located just south of Cape Francis. The old boat launch is on one side of the cove, while the new launch site is on the other side. And I'm guessing that this bright red piece of equipment somehow relates to launching boats.
