more St. John's

I started today at the Johnson Geo Centre, expecting to find something great for kids & just okay for adults; that was a miscalculation. The exhibits inside & outside were beautifully done & quite informative for all ages.

Of the several trails outside, I chose the Stoneworks Walk, which showed examples of the different ways stone was used in early fishing villages along with info panels. Here's a sampling.

Here are a couple of other items at the Geo Centre that caught my eye.

Harbourside Park is full of statues, monuments, & historical storyboards. The statues of the Newfoundland & Labrador dogs were the best.

Last up today was Commissariat House Provincial Historic Site, a big Georgian house. Before government came to Newfoundland, the British military was stationed here to protect the economic interests of the crown. The Assistant Commissary General lived here & was the administrator of the military, taking care of supplies & such. The adjacent stable has some great info & displays.
