more Organ Pipe & town of Why

The Ajo Mountain Drive in Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument is just great. As it's name suggests, it goes into the heart of the mountains. In the 6th pic below, there's a rock arch high up. Since this should be peak season here, it's surprising to me that there weren't many people anywhere in this park.

I'm staying in the town of Why, AZ, whose population is less than 200. Besides some scattered homes & 4 campgrounds, the only things here are 2 travel plazas at the intersection of 2 highways. The one travel plaza is your standard large gas station/convenience store which also offers propane for sale.

Across the street, the other travel plaza is its opposite in every way - nothing standard here. It's named "Why Not".

Besides gas pumps & a convenience store, they offer all kinds of services. There's the restaurant; the rooster out front has 450 rooster friends of all varieties inside.

At Why Not, they offer services for those going into Mexico, like these storage units, other storage for guns & cars, & insurance for your time in Mexico.

The lush landscaping includes this fountain in an old pickup truck.

And every available wall is covered in murals.

Many folks pose for pics here in from of this mural, which has lovely depictions of desert animals.

And the clouds provided a lovely finish to the day.
