The World's Shortest St Patrick's Day Parade

While visiting with cousins in Hot Springs, we attended this great local event. 

The downtown businesses were all decked out. 


Just before the parade starts, the official parade route is measured to be sure that it's still 98'; this is a shot looking down the entire route. 


Of course, a flag & a fire truck led off.


These were followed by 41 different vehicles or groups, which included: 

the king & queen & an adult tap dance troupe...


famous entities like Paw Patrol...


local businesses...


a rapper (unknown to me) & the Dallas Cheerleaders


Miss Arkansas...

                                  

an Amazon delivery van & guy with packages...


a group dressed up like Elvis...


etc.


It was a lovely visit & a fun event.

Gros Morne: Trout River area

Exploring this little town, I first walked up a headland to the lighthouse; the old lighthouse was charming, but, like many, it's been replaced by a functional red & white modern little tower.                                    Then, I walked up the headland on the other end of town. A late lunch of pickled herring with onions & sour cream along with a bowl of Newfoundland pea soup (split pea soup pureed with lots of carrots & potatoes) topped off my visit. Pinware & Point Amour

My first 5 nights in Labrador are at Pinware River Provincial Park. My campsite is just behind the tree line in the first pic, so the sound of the waves has been lulling me to sleep. This little guy has been a regular visitor to my campsite. The whalebone is on display at the entrance station.  Point Amour Lighthouse is more than 150 years old, is the tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada, & has quite a lot of history associated with it. When the HMS Raleigh, a British warship, wrecked here in 1922, all the locals pitched in to help rescue the 700 crew & keep them until other ships could take back to England. When a local lady who'd been especially helpful was asked by the crown what they could do for her, she asked for, & was granted, ownership of the cove next to the lighthouse; the current population of 8 are her descendants.

family reunion

Had about 3 dozen folks from Manny's family together here today. We're a loud & crazy group. Most of us came from parts of the East Coast, but 3 of the Texans came, as well as one from Australia. We're so blessed to have each other.
