Fairbanks

Sun Festival

Celebrating the summer solstice, this street fair is Alaska's biggest festival. While nice enough, it was just 3 short blocks of typical street festival stuff: performers, food, & retail vendors. Not part of the festival, these are a couple of downtown spots.

The sun rose this morning at 2:48am & will set tonight at 12:49am, so it never gets dark. I haven't seen actual darkness for the last 3 weeks. I might be less of a fan of the sun now as sleeping is really hard.

This little cabin, is the office for our campground here. Notice that the doorway is much shorter than this average height guy.

Folks around Fairbanks are quite aware of their unique location.

The last 2 winters, I loved watching sandhill cranes in southern Arizona, so it was fun to see a flock of them here in one of their summer homes. The actual birds are clustered around that lone tree. (Confirmed with binoculars.)

You might have noticed that I said "our campground". For about the next 8 days, I'll be with the Escape caravan, which is ranging is size from 5-8, depending on who's along for that section of the trip.
