Chitina to Tok, Alaska

Discovered last night that one of my tires was flat. Pumped it up this morning & headed 60 miles to Glennallen. Had to stop once to add more air, & it was deflating quickly as I arrived at the service station. They were able to patch it. I was so lucky to notice it & that it held long enough to get me to help.

Most of the drive today was along the edges of Wrangell-St Elias NP. Snow-covered Mt Drum & Mt Sanford put on a show.

Other sections of the drive were beautiful in a more subtle way.

The road condition was spotty, so it was tedious to keep a continuous lookout for animals beside the road & frost heaves & potholes in the road.

A wildfire started near here on June 19, when I passed through going toward Fairbanks. As of yesterday, they finally have the fire 55% contained. There were fire fighters, trucks, burned areas, & fire breaks along the highway coming in to town.

The RV parks in Alaska are often just parking lots with utility poles in them. This one in Tok is prettier than most.
