Haines - cultural center, fort, area

 Jilkaat Kwaan Cultural Heritage Center

Unfortunately, no photos are allowed inside this lovely museum. Most of the items in the collection are quite similar to the other Chilkat Tlingit artifacts I've seen elsewhere. They really were & are amazing artisans.

The museum is about 20 miles outside of Haines, & subtle signs of fall have appeared since I drove the same section of road about 3 weeks ago.

Fort William H. Seward Historic Site

All of the buildings here have been privately owned since WW II & are now a couple of small hotels, an art gallery, & a number of private homes.

in the area

Gotta love a place that's a bakery in the morning & a Thai restaurant in the evening. Didn't expect such an exotic dining option in a town of 2,500.

The town is quite a modest place, but a few scattered murals add some character.

In both The Yukon and & Alaska, even fairly small town have some nice indoor sports facilities for use during the long winters.

Didn't expect the water to be such a pretty blue-green on a cloudy day. It's going to be hard to leave this campsite in the morning.
