Hazelton & Smithers, BC

Today was a drive day with a mid-day break for seeing a few small sites around Hazelton, BC.

This bridge over the Bulkley River is (locally) famous for its engineering & for being in a lovely location. It's a narrow, 1-lane bridge with no traffic control. Cars which have accumulated on one side all go across until that side is clear; meanwhile, cars are stacking up on the other side. Then the cars on the other side  all go. It's a bit nerve-wracking being so high & so narrow & noisy due to the metal bridge deck.

Also at Hazelton is the 'Ksan Historical Village, home of the Gitxsan people. No photos are allowed in the museum, & the buildings were closed post-Labor Day.

The morning fog on the coast around Prince Rupert gave way to smoke from wildfires to the south. The scenery around Hazelton was beautiful, but partially hidden in the smoke.

I'm spending the night in Smithers, BC, where I stumbled on this mural on 3 walls of a restaurant; I wanted to know the story behind the mural, but the restaurant was closed. 😞 The temp today topped out at 84* - quite hot for Sept here.
