end of rally

Many folks left today, but a group of went out to a winery this afternoon, & enough stayed that there were still 2 campfires this evening; I dropped in on both.

Here's a pic of the end of a scavenger hunt, which was organized by a couple rally attendees. They also hosted a campfire last night for the folks who were new to the rally this year.

Most of the fiberglass rally folks are pretty low key, but some of our neighbors...well, not so much.

The ALCAN & Cassiar

Image
Most of today's drive was on the section of the ALCAN east of Whitehorse, which I'd driven on the way out, so no scenery pics.  There are still some gas pumps in Canada that don't take credit cards. It amazes me that you pump first & then go in to pay.  The Stewart-Cassiar Highway is even more desolate than the ALCAN, so everyone turning south onto the Cassiar stops at the same gas station to fill up. While pumping gas there, a heavy duty truck camper pulled up next to me. Even more than the rig, the map on the side caught my eye. This guy has been on the road for 15 years & been to all of the places on this map - amazing! I got so distracted by the map that I forgot to take a pic of the rig. He bought the truck in Australia with another camper on it. That camper fell apart in South America, so he took the truck to the Netherlands where they built him a custom expedition-style rig. He's now back "home" in northwestern Canada for a while. A short distan...

family & a fountain show

Image
After a lovely visit with my sister-in-law early in the day, my brother-in-law, a niece & her husband arrived from Texas in time for dinner. Then we went to Longwood Gardens (outside Phila) to take in the gardens & then a fountain/lights/music show. A grand day.

Wilmington to NYC

Image
I've spend a few days in Wilmington visiting with family, & this morning, my dear sister-in-law took me to the train, so I took an Amtrak train to Penn Central Station in NYC. At the station in Wilmington, the announcements were completely disconnected from what was actually happening with the trains; they would announce a "last call" for a train that had already departed, & announced that one train to NYC was arriving when it was actually another one - just crazy.  A cab took me over the Brooklyn Bridge to a hotel in Brooklyn. There's a lovely walking/biking path with lush greenery along the Hudson River that's just beautiful (not easy to photograph from a cab).  The Manhattan Municipal Building is quite impressive. This weird cab caught my eye.    The big excitement for the day was dinner at a Peruvian restaurant across from my hotel - sea bass with shrimp, mussels, & squid.  My reason for coming to NYC today was to be here early for my cruise, whi...
