murals, trolls, wine, campfire

Image
All but 2 trailers left today. I went to town Clinton, Iowa) to find the 3 trolls that everyone was talking about. First, I found some pretty cool murals.  The 3 trolls, & a "secret" 4th troll, were made by artist Thomas Dambo. There are a number of them scattered around the US, Europe, & a few elsewhere. Since I'll just be driving home the next 2 days, I'll save some of the troll pics for those days.  After an afternoon trip to another winery, we settled in for a last campfire by the marsh.

end of rally

Many folks left today, but a group of went out to a winery this afternoon, & enough stayed that there were still 2 campfires this evening; I dropped in on both.  Here's a pic of the end of a scavenger hunt, which was organized by a couple rally attendees. They also hosted a campfire last night for the folks who were new to the rally this year.  Most of the fiberglass rally folks are pretty low key, but some of our neighbors...well, not so much.

main day of the rally

Though there were several other activities today including  morning coffee, a blue tarp event, & trailer tours, the most popular one is always the dog parade.

Mississippi River Rendezvous

Today was the first full day of the rally. My job was to register everyone, so I stayed at my site most of the time from yesterday afternoon through this evening. Per tradition, a couple hosted everyone for coffee in the morning, & there was a dinner in the evening. The beavers building their dam & snowy egrets fishing kept things interesting.

rally kickoff

After more marsh-watching & visiting folks, the rally kicked off this evening with a "Chard Party" featuring some of our hosts' favorite chardonnays.

more MS River

In past years, I was one of the first folks to arrive when I came in Tuesday. This year, about half of the rally folks were here by last night. Today, a number of others arrived. I just enjoyed watching the marsh & visiting around.

back on The Mississippi

This is my 4th year coming to this rally. I arrived a couple of days early, as I just love this location. The campground has some sites look out on the River & others that look out on a marsh. I get a site overlooking the marsh, as there's tons of interesting wildlife there.
